Very "lucca" to be here!

Ready for dinner
Yesterday was our first full day in Tuscany and after running around Paris and Florence, Howard and I were both ready for a little down time...translation, we stayed in our PJs till 2pm.  Wow quite a treat! We finally ventured out but since it was rainy we decided to stay close to home and we hit the local market.  A cross between Ralphs, Gelsons and WalMart! We were able to buy everything from toilet paper to home made pasta to a flat screen tv!  Crazy.  It was a bit challenging given that absolutely no one spoke English but we managed pretty well.  I was anxious to do some home cooking and decided project #1 was to tackle the pizza oven.
The star of the meal...my pizza!
They have a beautiful 300 year old pizza oven which was a blast to cook on.  I think I did pretty well for my rookie try. All in all the first dinner was a huge hit.  Today we decided to hit the road even though it was still raining.  Our first outing was to Lucca which is only about 20 minutes away.  Lucca is a charming ancient walled town which is now filled with enotecca's (wine shops), restaurants, clothing shops etc...one little problem, most of the shops completely shut down between 12:30-3:30...precisely when we arrived!  We walked around and did some

All ready for dinner!
"window shopping" until the stores opened back up but we wont be making that mistake again...thats a nice little custom of the italians...no wonder they are always so happy! Tomorrow we are off to Pietrasanta, a medieval and artistic town which hosts an antique market the first sunday of every month! That will be fun.  OXOX
